Quantoom Biosciences’s facilities are strategically located in Belgium, in the heart of Europe, benefiting from an exceptional biotech ecosystem. MISSION – the ROLE

With the acceleration of Quantoom’s activity, the company is now looking to strengthen its senior team with the critical appointment of a Chief Technical Officer. This executive position will be a strategic partner to the CEO and will be accountable for maintaining the company at forefront in Science and Technology as it pertains to RNA manufacturing technologies. This position will be a key member of the company’s collaborative leadership team full of passionate change-makers and a major contributor in shaping the future success of the company. 


KEY RESPONSABILITIES

  • Responsible for providing keen and influential leadership both internally and externally and with all key stakeholders. 
  • The Chief Technical Officer will be responsible for the application of robust and scalable Science and Technology innovations and solutions related to the field of RNA and to ensure that scientific rigour is applied to all company programs. The Chief Technical Officer will be working closely with the Chief Operating & Engineering Officer.
  • The Chief Technical Officer will be a Key Opinion Leader in the field of RNA design, process development, encapsulation and manufacturing, as well as RNA applications (vaccines and therapeutics). The CTO will be responsible for building and maintaining scientific credibility with external organizations, working closely with Chief Commercial Officer.
  • From the Technical design perspective :
    • CTO sets technical and scientific priorities which align with the vision of the company to develop products and services which are in line with the priorities of the companies. When projects are getting off the ground, CTO is the person the team can check with to make sure their plans are viable. CTO will hold them accountable for their project's impact on the platform.
    • CTO co-owns the development methodology – the CTO and Tech Leads have to be responsible for five why's-style root cause analysis of defects. Otherwise, how can they find out what their blind spots are and make sure the team and the architecture is adjusting? That job calls for someone who sees the big picture.
    • CTO provides options – our CTO never says "that's impossible" or "we'd never do that." Instead, they find options and can communicate them to everyone in the company. If the CEO wants to completely change the product in order to serve a new customer segment, you need someone in the room who can digest the needs of the new (proposed) business and lay out the costs of each possible approach.
    • Develops an innovation and intellectual property strategy to create new value aligned with Quantoom Biosciences’s strategic objectives.
    • Creates & maintain a technology road map as a result of the here above responsibilities / activities. This Technology road map will be the foundation of Quantoom Biosciences 5 Years  Strategic plan.
    • Works closely with our R&D and engineering team for execution of our technology roadmap.


  • From the Business Strategy perspective:
    • It’s upon the CTO to think up ways for his CEO and stakeholders to fulfil their goals. If they can do that well, the CTO ends up at the forefront of innovative projects. Monitor technological, social and scientific trends that could influence the company's business goals. Identify opportunities and risks for the business.
    • CTO remains up-to-date and knowledgeable regarding industry trends, regulatory requirements, emerging technologies in anticipation of new processes and system evolutions, as well as to analyse and improve the technology standards, leverages industry knowledge and customer understanding to improve existing technologies and identify new services and products opportunities. 
    • CTO seeks strategic partnerships with our main stakeholders like customers, strategic suppliers, and R&D collaborators to increase business possibilities and service roadmap. This will have a positive impact to create sustainability and new customers opportunities.
    • CTO works closely with our Sales & Applications Teams to establish a business and technical approach of our prospects and potentials customers. This approach will be the technological reference who will facilitate the sales cycles and to create customers intimacy.
    • Evangelism – Finally, the CTO is also a public face of technology for the company. The CTO needs to represent that prowess in public appearances, in front of the peers, at conferences, strategic stakeholders, like supra government organisation, international funders, government agencies but also, prospective clients, strategic customers, highly ranked universities and/or engineering schools. CTO also builds relationships with vendors, communities and customers. CTO boosts company visibility with supporting material including for example white papers, scientific publications, other marketing material (webinars, lectures..).
  • The CTO will have extensive experience across the spectrum of process development and manufacturing activities working in the global RNA industry. 
  • The CTO will demonstrate courage in advancing new, innovative ideas and championing change initiatives to enhance organizational performance. 
  • The CTO will Work collaboratively with other key thought leaders in the organization to build effective relationships, to accomplish common goals and objectives. 


REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

The Chief Technical Officer is a key role for the company and thus will be a critical contributor in shaping its future success. He/she must possess vision and innovation. High energy levels, commitment, drive and pragmatism, intellectual rigour, personal resilience and dynamism are essential. More specifically: 

  • With a Master/Engineering/PhD degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences or Medical Sciences field, the candidate will have experience across the spectrum of process development, manufacturing activities and technology development working in the global biotechnology industry. 
  • 10+ years in pharmaceutical or technological industry and at least 5 years of experience as a CTO or similar technical and scientific leadership role. Prior experience in the field of mRNA manufacturing/producer is highly desirable.Proven track record in presenting/leading technical and business discussions with recognized Research and Development Center, large Pharma/biotech companies and/or CDMOs
  • Deep and robust understanding of the entire process/drug development and global regulatory processes of biotech drugs, as the base of production technologies development. Solid scientific background with an in-depth understanding of mRNA production processes, including regulatory requirements and GMP operational constraints. Demonstrated ability to map scientific questions to an automation/technology solution
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and influencing skills, with ability to work hand in hand with CEO/CBO/COO and ability to deliver key messages to internal and external audiences
  • Fluent in English, any other language is a plus.
  • The ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure company achieves its goals. Should be comfortable in navigating complex corporate and matrix-managed environments
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. 
  • The ability to anticipate potential challenges and bring forward viable options or alternative paths. 
  • Bringing a high degree of passion to working with a small, fast-paced entrepreneurial team that is driving some of the newest innovations in RNA development. 
  • Becoming rapidly conversant in the company’s technology platforms and serve as a company spokesperson as required.
  • Well networked at a high level and able to leverage key contacts for the benefit of the company
  • Strong network in worldwide life sciences sector to call upon specific expertise when needed.
  • Self-motivation and interest for start-up companies/SMEs. Strong network in worldwide or regional life sciences sector
  • Ability to travel
